How Botox May Help Jaw Tension
The masseter is the muscle on each side of your jaw that helps you chew. When it is overactive, whether from stress, habit, or anatomy, it can contribute to tension, soreness, or a tired feeling in your face.
Botox works by temporarily relaxing the muscle, which may reduce the intensity of clenching and the discomfort that comes with it. Results vary from person to person, and it is not a guarantee, but many patients notice some degree of relief.
What Nurse Jayme Evaluates
Not everyone with jaw tension is a good candidate for Botox. During your consultation, Nurse Jayme will assess your anatomy, ask about your symptoms, and talk through your goals.
She'll also want to understand whether you've worked with a dentist or TMJ specialist, since Botox is just one piece of the puzzle for some patients. If it doesn't seem like the right fit, she'll tell you.
What to Expect from Treatment
The injection itself is quick, usually just a few minutes per side. You may feel some tenderness afterward, but most people return to their day right away.
Relief typically begins within a week or two, and the effect can last around 3 to 4 months depending on your anatomy and how strongly your muscles respond.

An Important Note
Botox may help reduce symptoms related to jaw tension, but it's not a cure for TMJ disorders. If you have significant pain, clicking, or limited movement in your jaw, it's worth seeing a dentist or specialist who can evaluate the joint itself.
Nurse Jayme is happy to work alongside other providers if that is the best approach for you.
Some Patients Notice a Slimmer Jawline
Some patients notice that their jawline looks slimmer after masseter Botox. This happens because the muscle relaxes and reduces in size over time.
It's not the primary reason most people seek this treatment, but it can be a welcome side effect for those who feel their jaw looks overly square or bulky.
